CYJ is excited to announce our special guest for this year’s Women’s ReJEWventation Weekend, May 13-15: Rabbi-Cantor Robbi Sherwin!
Have you been wondering why attending spring camp or sending your kids to CYJ for the weekend is a great idea?
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. This year, I get to play football with my boys, eat Turkey with my family and friends, and probably watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Next Tuesday help us celebrate #GratitudeTuesday! We wanted to take the opportunity to thank YOU for being a part of the CYJ family!
Steven, who lives in a small town outside of Austin, grew up going to public school and never had a synagogue close enough for his family to belong to. He knew that his family celebrated Hanukkah instead of Christmas, but other than that, he didn’t know much about Judaism and never really met another Jewish kid at school.
Shoshana, an 8th grade camper in Bogrim, enjoyed her experience “roughing it” at army day. This is a memorable time when the Bogrim campers experience a day in the life of an IDF soldier, compete in an obstacle course, complete a secret mission, meet an active Israeli soldier over skype, and learn about the ethics of the IDF.
At CYJ, we encourage both staff and campers to participate in t’fillot through leading services, being honored with an Aliyah, or reading Torah (to name a few).
Long time CYJ camper, Leah, proves you are never too young to make a difference! In honor of her Bat Mitzvah, as a volunteer project, she made friendship bracelets to help provide tuition assistance to campers who would not otherwise be able to afford Camp Young Judaea.
People often ask me “So you’re a summer Camp Director, what do you do the rest of the year?” My standard answer is usually “as little as possible”. The reality is that from the moment one summer ends until the next begins, there is so much to do.
Our new portable Gaga court made its debut at the 4th annual Food Truck Palooza event, hosted by Temple Shalom in Dallas! We had a fantastic Sunday, playing Gaga, meeting new campers, sampling the tasty food and visiting with camper parents!
