People often ask me “So you’re a summer Camp Director, what do you do the rest of the year?” My standard answer is usually “as little as possible”. The reality is that from the moment one summer ends until the next begins, there is so much to do.
Our new portable Gaga court made its debut at the 4th annual Food Truck Palooza event, hosted by Temple Shalom in Dallas!We had a fantastic Sunday, playing Gaga, meeting new campers, sampling the tasty food and visiting with camper parents!
“Why can’t I go, too?” Sam* said sadly to his mom as they pulled up to Camp Young Judaea. He watched his sister bound from the car to join her friends. The campers were toting their luggage to their bunks, stopping to hug old friends or say hi to new ones.
In late August, I accompanied Emery/Weiner’s 9th grade class to CYJ for our annual Shabbaton retreat. At the beginning of each year, Emery students spend a weekend with their grade-level peers, not only to connect and bond, but to set a tone for the school year ahead. This was our first time to take Emery students to CYJ and we were not disappointed!
Summer 2015 just flew by and it could not have been more fun! This summer we added some fun and exciting programs to the mix and thought we could share these exciting new ventures.

Inclusion cultivates a warm, safe, judgment free zone. Children, who ordinarily may not be friends, embrace each other in friendship and kindness. What happens when it brings out the exclusive side? I’m better; you are weird. Can we break through that? How do bring back the judgment free zone?
Being a camp counselor this past summer was an unbelievable experience for me. This opportunity allowed me to bring my camp experience full circle as I worked with kids in the same aidot I attended as a camper.
