The thrill of Maccabiah as you scream and cheer on your friends… singing songs, arms wrapped around each other against the glow of a camp fire…. sharing a final moment with your group on closing day, hoping the feeling would last forever, wishing it would never end. These memories of camp help shape a child’s future. There is little doubt that the Jewish experiences children have at summer camp help to form their identities as young adults and future Jewish leaders. Both the social and Jewish communal experiences gained at CYJ are ones that will impact our future campers for a lifetime.
Today, you have an invaluable opportunity to help create significant memories and meaningful opportunities for the next generation of campers. Each year, CYJ raises money through its ‘Friends of CYJ’ Annual Campaign to do a few special things:
- provide financial assistance to campers from less-fortunate families
- improve our inclusion program for campers with special needs
- provide extra training and programs for staff
- create new programs with unbudgeted funds that foster innovation
Over the years, I have learned two important things. First, most people think “someone else will do it” and that their gift is not meaningful; that’s just not true! Second, people like to make end of year donations. I know I said two items, but the third is “always act now” (before you forget)!
As I begin working towards my 17th summer at CYJ, I continue to feel inspired and fulfilled each year. I am continually moved by the incredible impact a camp experience has on both campers and counselors. Please join me by making a tax-deductible contribution to CYJ by clicking here, or by sending a check to the address below.
This investment in the Jewish future will pay real dividends in the form of more smiling campers who are proud to be Jewish, devoted to Israel and committed to the value of tikkun olam (repairing the world).
Thank you for your consideration, and Happy New Year!
