Alumni Weekend

May 4-6, 2018

It’s time to go back to your summer home and enjoy a weekend away with all our camp friends! This year CYJ is hosting it’s very first weekend for camper and staff alumni, ages 21-35 (significant others are welcome too).

Alumni weekend has an excellent lineup of programs filled with nostalgia and action. Highlights include maccabia competitions, pool, boating at the lake, ropes course, shira shketa, rikud, havdallah, and delicious camp food (trust me our kosher BBQ brisket Friday night is the best!). Think of all the programs you’ve missed from camp, and now imagined it packed into one weekend of awesomeness!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who's invited?

Alumni Weekend is for past campers and staff from CYJ who are around the ages 21-35. Don’t worry we won’t check ID, but you MUST be over 21 to participate in this weekend.

Have a significant other that is tired of hearing all of your camp stories? Invite them too! Please leave the children and furry babies at home.

What will we do?

This weekend is for you and your camp friends to reminisce and enjoy all the fun activities CYJ has to offer. Enjoy the pool, ropes course, boating at the lake, maccabia, Friday night and Saturday morning services with parsha players, sports including gaga, and much more. We’ll add a fun adult twist to many of our programs too like flip cup and beer pong to our maccabia appache relay. We’ll even have a bar set up meals. Let us know if there is something special you’d like to do and we’ll see if we can make it happen!

How will housing work for Alumni Weekend?

During Alumni Weekend, we provide two types of accommodations on a first-come, first-served basis.

You can choose to stay in our Lodge. Each room is furnished with 1 twin bed, 1 queen bed, bathroom and shower. We will place 2 people in each room so be sure to choose your roommate! – You can even have up to 3 people in your room (but at least two of you will need to get cozy in the queen bed!).

Want to stay with all your camp friends in one place? Choose to stay in our cabins for the full camp experience. We have 16 bunks available, each including 8 bunk beds and a bathroom with 3 sinks, 2 toilets, and 2 showers. Select a group of 4-10 people for your cabin. We will also provide a female only and male only cabin.

What should I bring?

We’ll have sports activities, Shabbat dinner, time at the pool and the ropes course, a barbecue, and one big maccabia competition… whatever that itinerary means for your wardrobe, bring it along! We don’t offer towels and toiletries, but we will provide the bedding. Couldn’t hurt to bring an old camp shirt or two.

You’re also welcome to bring sports equipment, musical instruments, or anything else you think would enhance the weekend.

Libations: We’re asking everyone to bring a bottle (or two) of their favorite spirit to contribute to the open bar, (of course, if you don’t drink, don’t worry about it). We’ll supply ice, cups, snacks, some beer, kosher wine for Kiddush, and some mixers. The bar will be open all weekend! (Please be sure your spirits are kosher before bringing them to camp)

What will be the religious practices during Alumni Weekend?

Alumni Weekend will follow the “Spirit of Shabbat”: relaxation, presence in the moment, and connecting to old and new camp friends. We have our CYJ traditional Shabbat and Havdallah services. Festive Shabbat Meals will be served on Friday and Saturday.

There will be no work on Shabbat at Camp!!! Hopefully, you can refrain from laptops and cell phones as well. CYJ is a kosher facility and we will honor the kosher laws throughout the weekend. That means, other than their kosher spirits, you don’t need to bring any food from outside of camp. (Don’t let that worry you—our kitchen staff are experts!)

What is the cost of Alumni Weekend?

The cost is $175 per person, this includes housing, food, programming. What a steal!

We also hope alumni will share a meaningful contribution, with a suggested minimum donation of $100 that can be made during the retreat weekend (not a requirement to join us for the weekend).

What is your cancellation policy?
  • Cancellations made more than a month before the retreat date will be fully refunded, minus the non-refundable $25 registration fee per participant
  • Cancellations made less than a month before the retreat will receive a 50% refund
  • Cancellations the week prior to the event and no-shows are responsible for 100% of the retreat fees.
