Bubbe, Zayde, and Me

January 25-27, 2019

Grandparents, pack up your grandkids and head up to CYJ for a weekend of fun, friends, campfires, and much more! Spend time with your grandkids at their favorite place!  Program activities include sports, ropes course, boating, cooking, campfires, singing, dancing, and other traditional CYJ programs. This weekend is specifically designed for children in grades 1st-6th grade. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate children 3 and below.

Below are our FAQs. We can send you more information or you can contact us with any questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is invited?

Our program is designed for kids in 1st through 6th grades. We, unfortunately, cannot accommodate kids under 3 years old.

Do I have to be a Grandparent to attend?

Not all families are the same so we welcome any extended family members to bring their younger families members with them. For example, Great Aunt or Uncle, Great Grandparent, etc. You can decide what’s right for your family, just no parents allowed!

What will my grandchildren do during Bubbe, Zayde, and Me?

This weekend is intended to be family-oriented and many of the activities will be geared towards participating together. For select time periods during the weekend, activities will be planned for the grandparents and grandchildren separately as well. Click here to view last year’s schedule.

What if my grandchildren have never gone to CYJ?

This weekend is open to all Jewish grandparents and grandchildren (above the age of 3, but specifically children in grades 1st-6th); we welcome families who are new to CYJ and anyone who wants to spend a fun weekend with their grandchildren at Camp! You never know, maybe at the end of this experience, your grandchild will want to become a CYJ camper next summer!

What are the accommodations like?

We provide two types of accommodations. Grandparents will stay in lodge style housing while the grandkids will be in a camper cabin with their peers and counselors. The lodge accommodations offer a private room with a queen sized bed & 1 twin bed with a private bathroom. The cabins for the kids includes about 8 bunk beds and a bathroom with 3 sinks, 2 toilets, and 2 showers.

What will the food be like?

Our guests always seem surprised at how good our “camp food” is. It’s true, we are a kids’ summer camp, but don’t think all we do is hot dogs and chicken nuggets.  We run a year-round retreat business, after all!  We will have some of the kids’ camp favorites (yes, that includes Saturday morning coffee cake) as well as plenty of grown up choices.  All the food is guaranteed kosher in our separate meat and dairy kitchens.

Can you tell me more about the religious practices of Family Camp?

We observe the laws of kashrut at Family Camp and maintain respect for Shabbat. All of Saturday’s activities will be Shabbat-friendly and we do ask that families not use electronics in public spaces.  Attendants can, of course, observe Shabbat to their own comfort level in the privacy of their rooms.   We hope that you will join us Friday evening and Saturday morning for our traditional CYJ Texas Shabbat services.

What is the cost of CYJ Bubbe, Zayde, and Me?
    • $200 per Grandparent
    • $150 per Grandkid

This price includes housing, food, and all activities for the weekend.

What is CYJ's retreat refund policy?
      • Cancellations made more than a month before the retreat date will be fully refunded, minus the non-refundable $25 registration fee per participant
      • Cancellations made less than a month before the retreat will receive a 50% refund
      • Cancellations the week prior to the event and no-shows are responsible for 100% of the retreat fees.
